Swiftwater Team

Our Swiftwater Team is a group of dedicated members who have received extra training in swiftwater and flood response.  This specialized team responds when the incident involves swiftly moving water (white water) or flood operations.

Our response area has many rivers which are being used for recreational (and other) purposes.  Some recreationists may start in calm or slow water, but can get into trouble and end up down-stream in more dangerous areas of the river. We respond to assist the usual swimmers & tubers; however kayaking and canyoning is becoming more and more popular and even surfers & stand-up paddle boarders are requiring the expertise of our Swiftwater Team.

It has been recognized by authorities world wide; that there is an increase in the incidents of serious flooding.  This combined with the expansion of housing in more remote areas of the Juan de Fuca area, results in a greater number of people at risk of harm as a result of serious flooding.

Our Swiftwater team is trained and certified by the Justice Institute of BC, which in addition to housing the Province’s Police, Fire and Paramedic Academies, also trains and provides certification to  (land based) search and rescue.
